Videocon is illegal in Malaysia, but that's not the case with android boxes...here's why

If you grew up without Astro, you probably had not much to talk about in school. The newest and hit shows was mostly aired on Astro channels, and it became the topic of school kids whenever a teacher was late for class.

Unfortunately, nowadays it seems that people are feeling the pinch from Astro fees and because of that people are turning to alternatives. The popular ones seem to be Videocon, an indian satellite TV provider and of course android boxes. There are much cheaper and sometimes with Android boxes they’re even free.

But with all good things there seems to be a catch, in the sense where these things are illegal.

 

These devices are illegal and using it wrongly is illegal 

So there are two areas of the law that these devices are potential breaking :

  1.  Ownership of a device which infringes communication laws
  2.  The device is used to infringe copyright laws

So firstly with the case of Videocon and Android boxes, they’re breaching Section 232(1)(b) of the Communications and Multimedia Act. The section says that
