Press Release: AGC - Abduction and Murder of DPP Anthony Kevin Morais
Investigation Relating To The Abduction And Murder of DPP Anthony Kevin Morais
The Attorney General's Chambers extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Anthony Kevin Morais on his untimely passing in the course of carrying out his official duties in upholding justice and the rule of law. It is a deeply felt loss for Chambers both professionally as well as personally for his friends and colleagues here. Senior officers of the Attorney General's Chambers as well as Mr. Morais' colleagues in Chambers have been with his family at this difficult time to provide them support and assistance wherever possible. The Attorney General's Chambers also want to see justice and accountability in this case. While respecting the separation of functions between investigators and prosecutors, we strongly urge the police to investigate thoroughly to enable the perpetrators to be identified, found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This is the least that Chambers owes one of its own, an officer who has served the nation proudly, professionally and with complete dedication and commitment at home and abroad. Mr. Morais truly epitomized the adage "prosecuting without fear and favour" throughout his long, illustrious career. Mr. Morais will be deeply missed by his Chambers colleagues. He will also always be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he has touched in his own inimitable way. It is also emphasized that the Attorney General's Chambers will not be cowed by such acts of cowardice and intimidation against any of its officers. The rule of law can never be allowed to be undermined if Malaysia is to uphold its parliamentary democracy.
